Flare Up of P SymptomsIn the recent weeks, my scalp and guttate P have flared up. I attributed this to a variety of obvious reasons:

1. I HAVE SLACKED AND ALLOWED RED MEAT INTO MY DIET

I love cheese burgers and lasagna. I really do. However, thanks to my P, I have to ban myself from both of my favourite food many years ago. When I first implemented my new red meat-free diet, it was very hard due to the withdrawal symptoms. I absolutely craved for cheese burgers and lasagna even more. It was a drastic step to take but over time I succeeded.

In the last few years, I occasionally allowed myself the odd cheese burger or lasagna, though. Not a lot – perhaps two of each a year? It had been fine this way because I was still actively managing the symptoms of my P.

Recently however, I have slacked a lot. I ate more portions of cheese burgers and lasagna than I should, even knowing that my P is still there. I cut myself slack and as the consequences, more and more tiny little dots are appearing on my legs and back. The patches of scales on my scalp are growing thicker, too. I am not a happy girl 🙁

IN GENERAL, DO YOU THINK RED MEAT CONTRIBUTE TO THE FLARE UP OF SYMPTOMS OF P?

2. THERE WERE DAYS WHEN I ‘CHEATED’ AND USED OTHER NON-P SHAMPOOS

I have been using MG217 for 2.5 years now and it has always managed to keep my scalp P under control. Usually, the flakes from my scalp will be noticeably less after I have washed my hair with MG217. So, I have no reason or the intention to change to another shampoo (although I wondered at times if MG217 is gradually losings its effects as my P has gotten a little immune to it, in which case I might have to start experimenting with other brands of P shampoos).

Unfortunately, it neither cheap nor easy to buy MG217 in UK. The high percentage of tar is considered unsafe for long term use and thus, it is a banned item in Europe as a whole. Even the much ‘tamer’ Polytar has been taken off the shelves! I normally bought mine when I travelled to US or sometimes ordered directly through Ebay. As I am writing this, I am still awaiting the delivery of my MG217 from US and it has been almost a month now. As a result, I now have to use other commercial brands’ anti-dandruff shampoo as my stock of MG217 has finally run out about a week ago. When this happens, the itch in my scalp is felt instantly and it tends to be even worse at night. Most mornings when I wake up, I could see dried blood in my fingernails from the scratching of my scalp throughout the night.

DO YOU HAVE SCALP P? IF SO, IS THERE OTHER BRANDS OF SHAMPOO YOU WOULD RECOMMEND ME AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO MG217?

3. STRESS AT WORK

Stress is beyond my control. There is so much to do at work and everything is urgent. I reckon over time the stress just creeps in on me without me even realising it. I think about work all the time – first thing when I wake up, on my way to work, on my way back from work, in the evenings, before I go to sleep and at times I even dreamed of work-related dreams! Very unhealthy and it is a sign of stress, right?

I am trying to actively manage my stress. I try to do some breathing exercise when I get anxious about work. Some night, I try to meditate before I go to sleep. To a certain extent, it actually helps. Now, my plan is to increase all the relaxation exercises mentioned and schedule them into my day.
