Now that you know you are ready like me to start a blog.., the next question is how to really start and set it all up?
If you are a non-techie like me, then you have come to the right place! I have simplified this into a step-by-step guide for you to follow. There are only 4 super easy steps to follow. After all, I have just created and launched Sterling Happiness, so I know these steps do work and are simple to follow based on my own recent experience. The whole process took just under 30 minutes for me and if you are computer savvy, then you would have your own blog in just 15 minutes
STEP ONE: SELECT YOUR WEB HOSTING COMPANY AND PLAN
There are many web hosting companies out there but Bluehost is the most recommended one and that is why I decided to use them for Sterling Happiness. Bluehost offers a free domain when you sign up with them, so don’t miss out on the offer!
Now, all you need to do is select the plan you want. I’d recommend you to go for their Starter Plan, which is a real good value for money as you save so much in the end. Just so you know, the amount to pay is a one-time full payment, not a monthly payment.
STEP TWO: CREATE & REGISTER YOUR DOMAIN NAME
Now, this is the most creative part! Think of the domain name you want. In fact, think of the domain names you want. You will need more than just one because chances are, your first choice of domain name is not available as it is already registered to someone else. When you have your list of domain names, go to Bluehost to check and confirm the availability of your preferred domain name, which looks like this:
When your domain name is available, click ‘Next’ and you will need to enter your account information. At the bottom of the page, confirm the plan package and the options you want. Mine looks like this:
Once this is complete, the domain name is yours and Bluehost will be hosting your domain!
STEP THREE: INSTALL WORDPRESS
The next thing you need in order for you to blog is the blogging software. Log in to your Bluehost and you can install WordPress for free!
You will be prompted to enter your domain name and then you are ready to install. It might take a few minutes but be patient.
Once the installation is done, you will see the message and WordPress login details on your screen.
STEP FOUR: LOG IN TO WORDPRESS AND BLOG AWAY!
Use the login details provided to log in to your very own WordPress account (with your own domain name) and you are ready to write your first blog
